ESS program for NSW

In New South Wales (NSW), households and businesses can benefit from the incentives offered by the NSW ESS.

The NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) is a government program in New South Wales, Australia. It was introduced in 2009 and is managed by the NSW Government’s Department of Planning, Industry, and Environment. This program encourages people and businesses to use energy more efficiently, which helps reduce energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. To make this happen, the program offers financial rewards to individuals, companies, and organizations that take steps to save energy. The more energy you save, the more valuable these certificates become. This system encourages people and businesses to invest in energy-saving practices and technologies, which, in turn, benefits the environment and reduces energy costs for everyone. Overall, the NSW Energy Savings Scheme helps make New South Wales a greener and more energy-efficient place by rewarding those who use energy wisely.

How do I get involved?

Your participation is voluntary. If you would like to participate you will need to work with an ACP to arrange an upgrade at your property. The ACP or its representatives may ask you to enter into a contract for the upgrade works. You should carefully consider any such agreement in the same way you would consider any other contract for work being conducted at your property. If you choose to participate, you should:

  • Check the installer’s credentials. They should have clear photo identification and provide detailed information about the proposed upgrade and the ACP they are working with.
  • Discuss the equipment they propose to install and confirm it will meet your needs. If you are a tenant, you may require the landlord’s permission to install or change equipment.
  • Understand any commitments you are asked to make regarding the upgrade. For instance, you may be asked to agree to not go back to using the old equipment that was in place.
  • Complete the necessary paperwork. At a minimum, you will be asked to sign a Nomination Form to nominate the ACP as the energy saver for the upgrade to enable them to create Energy Savings Certificates (ESCs) from the energy savings that will be made.

Energy Efficiency Investment

Businesses take the first step by investing in an energy-saving initiative, such as upgrading to Cherry Energy Solutions’ LED lighting. This smart move is aimed at reducing their overall energy consumption.

Energy Savings Certificates (ESCs)

As a result of these energy-saving measures, Energy Savings Certificates (ESCs) are generated. Cherry Energy Solutions meticulously calculates the reduction in energy use. To make this process smoother for our customers, we collaborate with an Accredited Certificate Provider, who helps obtain these ESCs on their behalf.

Market Transaction

The generated ESCs don’t just sit idle; they become a valuable commodity. Liable parties, which often include electricity retailers, eagerly purchase these ESCs from our Accredited Certificate Provider. The prices of ESCs are determined by the laws of supply and demand in the market.

Financial Return

The financial gain from the sale of ESCs conducted by the Accredited Certificate Provider is then returned to the business that initiated the energy-saving measures through Cherry Energy Solutions. It’s a rewarding way for businesses to benefit from their commitment to energy efficiency.
